We must not forget that the analytic relationship is based on a love of truth ----- that is, on a recognition of reality.
Freud 1937:248
It is a form of psychological treatment that makes the therapist-patient relationship its focus.
The principle aim of psychotherapy is to help the patient to have feelings, emotions and experiences, that he/she was incapable of having before.
What takes place in Psychoanalytic Therapy comes through a personal act of understanding. It is a complex reality, both intrapsychic and interpersonal, both individual and social. One has to experience it for oneself. It occurs at the centre of the individual. It is the work of soul searching at times.
It seeks to understanding person in a developmental way, integrating what they were with what they are and with what they are becoming. It is therefore a long process.
